Dr. Eddy Pérez Then, MD, M.P.H., M.S.P.H., Ph.D.

Public health expert and Medical Doctor with over 20 years of experience. He has acquired his Masters in Science in Public Health in 2004, at the University of Miami, and his PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2009 at the same University, under the auspices of the Fogarty International Center and Research Program. He is currently completing an MBA program in International Health Management, at Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. 

Dr. Pérez Then is currently the Director of the O&M Medical School (O&Med) and the Global Health and Biotechnology Research Center affiliated to it. He was the Director and Founder of the Knowledge Management Department at CEDIMAT (2010-2017), a Health Care Center of Excellence located in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. He has set a standard in clinical research in the Dominican Republic, focusing on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and has dedicated most of his efforts in developing strategies to improve health care practices in the Dominican Republic. 

As the current Director of O&Med, Dr. Perez-Then is concentrating his efforts in developing teaching strategies and curriculum integration to bring together technological advances and medical knowledge to command a change in the medical educational paradigm of the Dominican Republic. Dr. Perez-Then was Director of the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health, from 2006 until 2012, where he implemented numerous research projects on infectious diseases, global health and quality of care determinants to reduce infant-maternal mortality rates. He is one of the founders of the Presidential Council on AIDS (CONAVIHSIDA) of the Dominican Republic, and was an honorary Advisor from 2001 through 2011. 

Dr. Pérez-Then is widely published, nationally and internationally, in HIV and tuberculosis treatment and prevention. He has received awards from USAID and the US Department of State for notable contributions in preventing vertical HIV transmission in the Dominican Republic, the Junior Chamber International Award for notable contributions in the field of science and technology in the Dominican Republic, and was recognized by the University of Miami, at his PhD commencement, as one of five graduates who have made a direct and lasting difference in the lives of others. 

He has received different awards for his work in HIV vertical transmission and to reduce the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS infection. He has worked on donor-funded projects for ANRS, PAHO, WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF, Elizabeth Glazer Foundation, Global Strategies for HIV Prevention and USAID, among other national and international agencies, research centers, and faith based organizations.
